KUCHING, Feb 7: Cluster Pasai in Sibu is no longer confined to infections in longhouses.

This was what State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said when he revealed Sarawak State Health Department (JKNS) was requested to consider a sub cluster classification for the biggest cluster in the state.

“Cluster Pasai is no longer confined to longhouses and it is now all over Sibu and beyond, infecting fellow Sarawakians of all races, ages and religions,” he said in his Facebook post last night (Feb 6).

Further commenting on the closure of Sibu Central Market, Dr Sim assured that the market can be reopened in a safer condition after some deep cleaning and all hawkers undergo swab tests and quarantine procedures for 14 days.

Moving on to Dalat, the Minister of Local Government and Housing said the district is predicted to be able to improve from a Covid-19 red zone back to orange and yellow statuses soon in the next 14 days.

This is because there is entirely no movement now in Dalat as most of the villages there are under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) and Active Case Detection (ACD) is being carried out.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim said lives can only be back to normal until there is a herd immunity of 70 per cent which is by vaccination.

“The best way to get 70 per cent herd immunity is by vaccination, rather than waiting for 70 per cent of those survived from Covid-19 infection through community spreading,” he remarked.

He added the process through community infection would not only risk the lives of Sarawakians, but the healthcare system in the state may collapse. — DayakDaily
