KUCHING (Dec 31): All projects listed under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) in Sarawak must be successfully implemented during its final year of implementation in 2025 to enable the people to enjoy the benefits, said Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

In his New Year message, the Premier said under the 12MP since 2021, Sarawak has successfully implemented infrastructure projects such as roads and bridges, and supplying electricity and water.

Others that were implemented involved socio-economic projects such as the development of small and medium industries, and social safety net programmes, he added.

“I sincerely hope that efforts to implement the 12MP in Sarawak will be enhanced next year (2025) so that all the projects listed can be successfully implemented for the benefit of the people, especially the physical projects,” he said.

He also informed that in 2025, a mid-term review will be conducted to assess the success of the implementation of programmes and projects under the state’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030.

“I am confident that all infrastructure projects, water supply projects, programmes to upgrade internet connectivity, and social welfare programmes funded by the Sarawak government itself will continue successfully by 2030,” he said.

Adding on, Abang Johari said high-impact projects in the pipeline include a deep-sea port and a new international airport in Kuching, while the modern agricultural sector will also be driven by the use of technology.

He also informed that 2025 will see the Sarawak government making preparations to provide free education at the tertiary level, which will be implemented in 2026.

Based on recent news reports, the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development is currently finalising the details to implement free tertiary education at state-owned higher learning institutions.

The details include the range of courses covered and other key aspects of the initiative.

Abang Johari said in view of these exciting new developments, Sarawakians must continue to work together to enjoy the benefits of development regardless of background, religion or race.

“The spirit of unity that we have fostered over the years is the pillar of our strength to face challenges and achieve success,” he said.
