KUCHING (July 29): The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI) has proposed organising a forum on integrity to strengthen ethical governance and promote zero tolerance towards corruption in Sarawak.
Its chairman Datuk John Tenewi Nuek said the proposal would be one of the organisation’s key priorities for the coming year, alongside the establishment of the TSI Artificial Intelligence (AI) Community, as part of its mission to build a progressive, inclusive and self-sustaining Sarawak.
Speaking at TSI’s 2026 annual general meeting (AGM), he said integrity and the fight against corruption must be given the highest priority, noting that corruption had cost the country billions of ringgit over the years.
He said the proposed ‘TSI Forum on Integrity’ would bring together participants from various organisations and sectors to develop practical and actionable recommendations aimed at strengthening integrity and combating corruption.
“Over the years, the government and the country have lost billions of ringgits through corruption. Imagine how many schools, hospitals, roads and bridges we could have built with this amount of money,” he said in his speech, shared by TSI via a statement on Tuesday.
On the TSI AI Community plan, John said it meant to equip Sarawakian youths with knowledge and skills in AI, while promoting AI literacy programmes for local communities.
“This initiative can also help bridge the technological gap between urban technology hubs and businesses in rural and underserved areas.
“AI can help local entrepreneurs and businesses improve productivity and competitiveness through applications such as data analytics, agricultural automation and smarter manufacturing processes.
“It can also help strengthen grassroots economies and ensure that the benefits of technological advancement will reach communities throughout Sarawak,” said John, while also calling upon fellow TSI members and supporters to actively participate in building the AI Community network.
Meanwhile, the TSI’s leadership line-up remain.
Assisting John are deputy chairman Datu Azmi Bujang, secretary Dr John Chew and treasurer Nathaniel Min Shan Reducto.
The committee members are Dr Lucy Sebli, Dr Ipoi Datan, Patrick Sibat, John Selvaraj and Derrick Law.
