SIBU (July 30): Fifty-five low income recipients in Sibu received equipment assistance from the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM) under the Sejahtera Madani Income Enhancement Focus Programme.

Sarawak ICU JPM deputy director Aziba Rashidi said the RM275,000 assistance package aimed to help recipients generate sustainable income instead of merely providing short-term relief.

“This programme reflects the Madani Government’s commitment to empowering vulnerable groups by building their capacity to become more financially independent.

“Government assistance is not only about easing the burden of recipients, but also about creating opportunities for them to improve their household income and achieve better quality of life,” she said during the programme’s opening ceremony at the Sibu Islamic Welfare Board hall here yesterday.

She said this year’s programme covered six categories such as sewing, printing, make-up and hairdressing, bakery and pastry, hair cutting and motorcycle assistance.

She added that 10 recipients from each category received equipment worth RM50,000, while the printing category involved five recipients with an allocation of RM25,000.

Aziba stressed that poverty was not a condition that had to be inherited, but a cycle that could be broken through education, hard work and continuous support.

She added that the Sarawak State Development Office would conduct monthly monitoring of all recipients for a year to ensure the assistance provided was fully utilised to improve their household income.
